Learning doesn't need to end when students come home from school or leave North Mountain Institute. There's a lot that you can do at home to become a better student and learn more about what you need to know, and we hope that our students will take advantage of any other resources at their disposal to advance their education. That's why we're put together some resources here that have been helpful to students at any point in their lifelong learning journey.
One of the most important things you can study up on at home is how to study. Learning how to learn and how to remember what you've learned is a crucial skill at any age. The Internet offers plenty of good advice on how to stay organized, create good notes, and practice material until you can confidently remember and use it. Part of being a good learner is also understanding when you're too lost to study on your own and need to ask for help from your instructor or tutor. We do our best to instill these skills when students arrive at North Mountain Institute, but it doesn't hurt to brush up on them at home.
Kids especially can benefit from using the Internet to learn at home because of the wide variety of high-quality educational games online. There's no rule that learning has to be boring! Younger students can feel like they're playing a fun video game while sharpening their skills in a variety of school subject areas. We sometimes add educational games to our programs to break things up a bit and keep kids engaged in learning after a long day at school. Just remember to always supervise kids while they use the Internet so that they stay safe online.
Older students can also find resources online to help them with their educational journey. Whether you're a high school student planning for college or an adult looking to learn new job skills or earn a degree, you can find information online that can help you with applying to schools and navigating the financial aid process.
